Howard Ketover, DVM

Dr. Ketover’s love of horses came honestly – his grandfather served in the cavalry in World War I and later owned a horse farm in New Jersey. Dr. Ketover grew up all over the United States, learning to ride in the hunter/jumper arena along the way. Now, he shares his passion for horses with his family and clients.

As of October 2021, Dr. Ketover began serving as the President of the Wisconsin Veterinary Medical Association for the upcoming year. This honor will take him around the state and to various parts of the county listening to and representing the veterinarians of Wisconsin. Areas of focus he that are of interest to Dr. Ketover include increasing awareness of programs that promote work-life balance, inclusiveness and overall wellness among our members.

In addition to his veterinary work, Dr. Ketover facilitated the development of the Wisconsin Large Animal Emergency Response (WLAER), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that responds to large animal emergencies like down and entrapped animals, trailer accidents, and mud/water rescues. WLAER also prioritizes education, teaching first responders and veterinarians throughout the state. You can read more about Dr. Ketover’s work with WLAER in this article focusing on the increasing need for technical rescue training.

Dr. Ketover is also committed to giving back to the equine community and has been a volunteer speaker at 4H, FFA, and Wisconsin Horse Council events, as well as serving as a past president of Wisconsin Equine Practitioners Association. He also serves as a Veterinary Control Judge at endurance rides and combined driving events.

Lisa Nesson, DVM

Dr. Nesson was born and raised in South Central Wisconsin on a dairy goat farm, riding her cousin’s ponies whenever she got the chance. Dr. Nesson’s great grandfather raced Standardbreds in county fairs all over the state, and she knew horses were her own calling when she fell in love with American Saddlebreds in high school. In college, Dr. Nesson was given her first horse, CHF Master Plan, aka Rebel, who she still has to this day.

Today, Dr. Nesson and her family raise, train, and enjoy their own Saddlebreds. Dr. Nesson also enjoys sharing her knowledge and passion for equine health care with many organizations throughout the Midwest, including the Wisconsin Veterinary Medical Association, Wisconsin Equine Practitioners Association, and the American Saddlebred Association of Wisconsin. Additionally, Dr. Nesson provides veterinary care at horse shows throughout the state and enjoys speaking at 4-H clubs, Wisconsin equine organizations, and the Midwest Horse Fair. Dr. Nesson also served as a past president of that Wisconsin Equine Practitioners Association.

ASSOCIATE

Lauren Alderman, DVM, CVA, CVSMT

Dr. Alderman has been a lover of horses for nearly her entire life. A Wisconsin native, her mother introduced her to horses when she was just eight years old, and used the opportunity teaching her daughter about horses to jump back into the horse world as well. In the early years, she did a little bit of every discipline, but when she was introduced to polo at age twelve, she never looked back. She was an officer on the UW-Madison Polo Club, and now competes with the Madison Polo Club.

Dr. Alderman is quite experienced working with senior horses, as she has personally owned a 33 year old, blind Arabian horse, and now has a nine year old OTTB turned polo pony.

In addition to her work on the polo field, Dr. Alderman dedicates her self to equitarian initiatives, particularly with the Horse Spirit Society and the Christian Veterinary Mission. She completed vaccinations, castrations, dental work, and wound care in both Haiti and on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota, in addition to helping establish deworming programs at each location. The Pine Ridge Indian Reservation presented particular challenges, as the majority of horses are feral and unhandled.
